THE FIELD …

Our Project Manager (PM, aka Dog Mom, boss, Head Dog), has featured everybody in the family but me, Daisy, and Katie … so we are going to make this about, well … us!  Mostly.

The highlight of our day, after breakfast, and nap time, and dinner, and PM coming home to stay home … is running in THE FIELD.  We LOVE THE FIELD.  It is about 2 acres adjacent to our yard.  The boss lady leases it from a neighbor and we get to blast around it at least once a day.

Now there is a protocol for going to THE FIELD.  It requires a lot of bouncing and barking on Katie’s part, and a lot of worrying and traffic management on my part.  And just to clarify, I, Daisy, am the sleek black vision you see in the photos.  I am constantly at my provider’s side — keeping a watch on the slackers around here.  Katie is the black and white blur you see — she jumps and spins and barks and carries on.  She is just happy all the way around – irritating — but happy.

So anyway, first the collars for the invisible fence go on, one dog at a time.  We swirl like sharks and the noise we make is beyond deafening … according to some.

The opening of the gate is akin to the starter’s flag dropping at a horse race.  All bets are off once that gate opens — we blast as a pack.  Pending the temperature, we make a round or two of the field (PM has a figure eight walking track mowed in the grass), before settling down to look for whatever disgusting things we can a.) eat and/or b.) roll in.  If it is cool outside, Katie makes her rounds like a streaker running through a high school parking lot — running as fast as she can and barking the whole time.  If it is hot, as it has been for months — many of us head for the water tank.

Me, Katie and Yippe. What is it about green water in a tank in the baking sun that tastes sooo good?

PM usually walks the loop several times and we putter about.  Emma Louise has recently learned the fence system, Yippee stays close to PM, so only Petunia has to be leash walked.  PM says we are going to work on that this Fall.  She wants us all to be able to run and play undeterred … but I have my doubts about Tunie making the switch … she is one stubborn little cookie.

PM says this field is her muse.  No matter what is happening, good or bad in our lives … THE FIELD is where we go to process it, to listen for direction, and let’s face it … to find all sorts of gross things to drag back to the house!  After all, isn’t that the best part of being a dog?  Rolling in gross stuff and still knowing that you will be sleeping on the bed tonight … me and Katie are all for that!

P.S.  Here is PM’S  effort to video our evening Fiesta!  She blocked the sound so your dogs wouldn’t start barking … which happens here every time she runs it here!
